Scottish Vocational Qualifications

Improve has worked in partnership with employers across the food and drink industry to develop the Framework for Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Food Manufacture.

This Framework provides a single Qualification with flexible pathway options, and is designed to raise both skills levels and performance across the food and drink workforce.

There are numerous benefits for employers and these include:

Recognising achievement and supporting progression
Developing skills to increase both performance and productivity
Offering bite sized learning, which supports and complements job roles

SVQs are competency based and ensure that individuals develop the specific skills needed to perform reliably and consistently in the workplace.

These Qualifications are structured around Units of Competence and have been developed using Improve's Sector Performance Standards, which are also known as National Occupational Standards (NOS).

The SVQ in Food Manufacture is available at Level 1 and Level 2 for employees in operative roles, and Level 3 for those in supervisory and technical roles.

Employers have driven this flexible approach to learning through working in partnership with Improve. They have ensured that the SVQ meets the skills needs of the industry with flexible pathways and the opportunities offered to build a tailor-made Qualification.

Through supporting career progression, the SVQ in Food Manufacture plays an integral role in developing the food and drink industry's technicians and managers of tomorrow.
