Food and Drink Industry Ongoing Development Qualifications

The development of new Standards and Qualifications required by the food and drink industry continues

Standards

Both employers and individuals across the industry have made valuable contributions to the development of Improve’s diverse suites of Sector Performance Standards, which are also known as National Occupational Standards (NOS).

The process involves widespread consultation to ensure Standards are representative of the job roles and functions in the industry today. The Standards that have been developed to date are now available to download from www.ukstandards.org.uk and Improve would like to thank everybody who has contributed to the development of these.

We are currently in the process of developing Standards for Food Technology, Lean Manufacturing, Fresh Produce and Wine Making. We appreciate all feedback and will make all documents open for consultation available on this web page.

Qualifications

Units of Assessment are developed from Standards and they form the building blocks of the new Qualifications in development.

Different types of Units can be combined to create:

• Proficiency Qualifications, which are competence based and assessed in the workplace.

• Vocational Qualifications which are delivered and assessed off-the-job.

Over the coming months, Improve will be consulting on both the content of the Units of Assessment we have developed, and the proposed Qualification Structures. We welcome comments on the content of the Units, their currency for your sector and relevance to job roles in your company.

The Units of Assessment for Brewing Proficiency Qualifications are now open for consultation. This is a two stage process with the Units currently being open for consultation and in the coming weeks the Level 2 Brewing Qualification Structure will be available to feedback on.

You can view the current Standards, Units of Assessment and Qualification Structure documents open for consultation by clicking the links below, which will appear when consultation is open. We value all comments and look forward to receiving your feedback.
