Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design Parents and Students

The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design is a new qualification for 14-19 year olds available from September 2009.

It is part of a national programme to widen the choice of courses for young people, to motivate them and encourage them to continue learning for longer. It will help them to gain the qualifications they need for success - at work, college or university.

The Diploma is a qualification based around an employment sector, combining academic study with practical experience. The Diploma will help your son or daughter develop work-relevant skills, knowledge and understanding in a creative and enjoyable way.

Students will learn about a chosen employment sector, helping them to make decisions about their future - whether that's a particular career or further study.

They will develop transferable skills that any employer would recognise. Diploma students will also gain the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to go on to college or university.

What's important is that Diplomas do not restrict future options. They give young people an insight into particular employment sectors, alongside a fully rounded education.
