Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design

The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design is an exciting new qualification for 14-19 year olds, which helps to prepare them in an innovative and exciting way for university or employment.

All Diploma students study English, maths and ICT alongside their chosen discipline. They do an extended project, specialist learning in a related subject and at least ten days work experience.

Diplomas have been developed by employers, so practical work-related learning is at the heart of the qualification.

The Diploma in Manufacturing and Product Design (MPD) will give young people the opportunity to learn about the manufacturing and product design process from the purchasing and processing of the raw materials all the way through to marketing and selling the final product.

The Diploma in MPD is a work relevant qualification that looks at the complete process of manufacturing, from the purchasing of raw materials through to the sale of the finished product. This process encompasses design, procurement, human resource management, finance, marketing and issues such as sustainability and globalisation.

The new Show Your Support leaflet for the Diploma in MPD has recently been developed to encourage employers to get involved and help young people develop in their careers.
