Food and Drink Industry Qualifications

The launch of the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is the biggest change to Qualifications in 20 years.

Here at Improve, we are taking this opportunity to reform food and drink Qualifications. We are tailoring them to meet employers' needs and this will ensure they are fit for purpose. These new Qualifications are aimed at raising skills levels and performance across the food and drink workforce.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) in Scotland provides a flexible framework also based on a credit system. Improve's new food and drink Qualifications for England, Wales and Northern Ireland will complement the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Food Manufacture.

There are two new families of Qualifications - Improve Proficiency Qualifications (IPQs) and Improve Vocational Qualifications (IVQs).

They will sit alongside SVQs and add value to the flexible approach to learning it offers. As well as this, they will be essential to skills development, driving up performance and increasing productivity in food and drink companies.

IPQs will recognise competence in the workplace in a similar way to SVQs. They are designed for those currently working in the industry. IVQs will acknowledge skills achievements in a learning environment and prepare learners for the workplace.

In this section, you can learn more about the range of food and drink Qualifications on offer, as well as contribute to their development by taking part in consultation.
