It's a great way of introducing young people to the world of work and in particular the food and drink industry. The Challenge aims to provide a realistic work experience by demonstrating the diversity of career opportunities within the industry.
Students work in teams and are set the task of developing a new food or drink product choosing from a sandwich, pizza, smoothie, muffin or breakfast bar. They are then guided through a series of activities required for new product development: choosing product values, manufacturing requirements, marketing, costing and culminating in a trade fair.
The Food and Drink Schools Challenge is a great experience for pupils, teaching staff and facilitators alike. It is an ideal opportunity to get manufacturing companies engaged with school curriculum. Companies could be used to support the running of the day, be part of the judging panel, or simply contribute to informing pupils more about the food and drink manufacturing sector.
All learning materials and staff support guidelines are held on an interactive, password protected, CD-Rom making the challenge more accessible to pupils and teaching staff.
CD-Rom's are free of charge, all we ask is that you keep us informed of your challenge. If you would like a copy of the CD-Rom and further information about the challenge email info@improveltd.co.uk
